Alec Baldwin - Talented actor of the movies, theatre, Broadway, soaps and sitcoms; a voice actor; film producer; host of live shows and a supporter of many good causes.
He was born in Massapequa, Long Island, New York on April 3, 1958 and was one of the six children raised by Catholic parents. Alec’s father, Alexander Rae Baldwin II, was a high school teacher and a director of drama club as well as a football coach. His brothers are also part of the entertainment industry- Daniel, Stephen, William Baldwin are actors.
Here's a bit about his acting career:
1. After being accepted by the New York City Undergraduate Drama Program, his professional training began.
2. He got his first major role on a daytime soap ‘The Doctors’ in 1980. Then he starred in the short-lived series Cutter to Houston but it was his role in Knots Landing, which gave him stardom.
3. In the initial years of 1980’s he spent most of his time doing television series. It was his small appearances in movies such as - She’s having a baby; Beetlejuice and Working Girl that gave him recognition and increased value of his profile in the movie industry.
4. He did many supporting roles before he bagged the leading role in The Hunt of Red October after which he got many notable roles. Since then there has been no turning back for this great actor. He has also done several thrillers- The Edge, The Juror, Heaven’s Prisoners etc
5. He made his Broadway Debut with Joe Orton’s Loot in 1986. The list of shows he did on stage- Caryl Churchill’s Serious Money, A Streetcar Named Desire, Twentieth Century, he did a concert version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific and Entertaining Mr.Sloane
6. He has worked as a voice actor for movies such as Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.
7. He has hosted the famous Saturday Night Live show 12 times. His SNL has been very popular and he is one of the two people who have standing invitations to host this show, whenever they want.
A few awards won by him -
1. He has been nominated five times for an Emmy Award but hasn’t won yet. He was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor for miniseries - 'A Streetcar named Desire'. As producer, he was nominated for Outstanding Miniseries Nurmeberg and outstanding supporting actor for ministeries Path to War and nominated twice for outstanding guest actor for a comedy series 'Will & Grace'.
2. He got a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in 'The Cooler' and for the same movie he was awarded the National Board of Review Best Supporting Actor Honor.
3. He won an Obie Award for the 1991 off-Broadway production of Craig Lucas' "Prelude to a Kiss" and a Theatre World Award in 1986 for his turn in Joe Orton's "Loot" on Broadway
