Benny Hill was a prolific comic, actor and singer, best known for his television programme 'The Benny Hill Show'. The show has a huge viewership. Billions of people across the globe watch the Benny-Hill show. Since its debut in 1969 the television show has been sold to over 140 countries worldwide.

When most people today speak of the Benny-Hill theme song, they do so with the Thames show in mind.

Hill themes had an unusual twist. The twist was that rather than him chasing the girls, the girls chased him.

In the early times, it was simplistic bawdy humor that attracted the attention of people. Every programme ended with an extended, sped-up sequence of unforgettable music. Benny hill ended with a great song towards the end of the show.

In 1974, a selection of best Thames TV sketches was released as a theatrically distributed movie - 'The Best Of Bennyy Hill'. People paid huge amounts to watch the movie on big screen.

Beny Hill was popular with the people for his marvelous features, which were always one of the pulling factors for his fans.

Benny was popular in the international market but his value declined in his home market. In the shows of Benny Hill, the girls were depicted as mere good looking dumb beauties. The treatment of the women in the shows was as brainless sexual objects. At the time when these Benny Hill shows were on the TV there was increased feminism in the society and so the ratings declined in the home market. His British TV ratings slipped badly in the 1980s.

There can be one more reason for the decline of the Benny Hill shows - the physical appearance of Hill in the Thames shows. He did not age well and put on much weight due to which his divine features were lost. The present look of Hill no longer induced the same sympathies as before.

Benny hill did little TV work besides these shows - not for money but just for his thirst for work. He was already wealthier than his counterparts. He had enough money to sustain his needs. Certainly, he didn’t do the shows for money.
