I would like to write about some new Hollywood Stars. It is a new reality TV show called "ON THE LOT" from Mark Burnett, and Steven Spielberg. ON THE LOT gives aspiring filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime with a $1 million dollar development deal. Over the season, sixteen filmmakers will produce short films in every genre. Every week the viewers will vote on who gets eliminated, and who goes on to be the next director of hollywood stars. The show will premiere with a one hour auditions episode to be aired on May 16th. Providing that the shows producers haven't bumped the date around as they did with their deadline for submissions. I had heard about the contest and had the opportunity to enter near the end of the submission deadline. Yes I had high hopes too. To be able to direct hollywood stars. I had already filmed a great deal of footage for a documentary. I just hadn't sorted through it yet. I quickly found enough footage and created my five minute and forty-five second film short. I had it transferred to a DVD, and mailed it in along with my application in hopes that I would be selected to direct hollywood stars. It only took a couple of weeks and my film had been posted by the site along with many others. I began reviewing other films while others were reviewing mine. It turned out to be great fun for all. The site has several message boards. I chose to participate on the general message board. It has a wide variety of potential new hollywood stars. To me... everyone in the movie business that is successful is a star. The most interesting thing that I discovered about some of the people that were either contestants, or had just created a profile to watch and critique films were mean. Surely no hollywood stars would work with these types. They would usually create a profile with an avatar created by ON THE LOT. They would then fill their profiles with as little information about themselves as possible. That information may or may not have been true. Regardless of that, they proceeded to rate films with mean spirited reviews. Very much unlike true hollywood stars. Films that were done by very talented directors were getting nasty remarks about their films. The jerks acting like school yard bullies were becoming the talk of the general message board. Many filmmakers were complaining to the site's monitors, yet nothing was being done about it. One day I logged on to see an interesting new profile. Someone had decided to take matters into their owns hands and fight back. Someone was giving these bullies a dose of their own medicine. And it was working. Filmmakers were afraid to fight back in fear of being deleted and disqualified by hollywood. This person was not a filmmaker, but chose to fight for them. It didn't take very long before the bullies has disappeared. Since then, there has been a filmmaker or two that have tried bullying other filmmakers because they know that their work is awful and that they have no chance to direct hollywood stars. There are some filmmakers that are taking a stand and putting them quickly in their places. It a shame that we live in a world where there are mean spirited people amongst us. People that for whatever reasons choose to harm or degrade others. I feel that they act the way that they do because they hate themselves. They hate their own lives and everything about it. They are jealous of happy and successful people. One young filmmaker of 26 years of age that knew he had no chance to direct hollywood stars, had made some mean remarks about certain types of filmmakers on a board. He seemed to be quite arrogant to everyone else thinking that he was "all that". Yet his film was of an amatuer level and recieved bad ratings and reviews after his remarks. Someone had told him to pay attention to interviews of hollywood stars. They asked him if he had ever seen any hollywood stars being interviewed ever speak badly of other hollywood stars. He was told that he would probably never see such a thing because that's a part of what makes them hollywood stars. In conclusion I'd like to add... being mean and nasty will most likely get doors closed in your face. Be kind with a smile, and those doors stand a better chance of being opened.
