A typical Johnny Depp film does not exist .His roles are always varied and the films accepts are not always guaranteed box office material .

The Johnny Depp film career began in 1984 in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', where he played the boyfriend of the heroine, eaten by a demonic bed.

The Johnny Depp film character that has thrown him into super star category , at least in monetary terms , is the hugely successful Capt Jack Sparrow .

Capt Jack is of course the starring character in the Pirates of the Caribbean series , based on the Disney Theme park ride of the same name. Depp claims to have based the character on Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.

Three films were made back to back and the first released was The Curse Of The Black Pearl in 2003, for which Depp was Academy nominated.

Not receiving huge critical acclaim , the film went on to become a smash, based largely on word of mouth from the people that matter , the paying public.

Film two of the series 'Dead Man's Chest' was released in 2006 . Another massive box office success . The final episode, 'At World's End' has a greatly anticipated release date of some time in 2007 .

Collaboration with director Tim Burton has produced several Johnny Depp film triumphs. Depp once said of Burton that the director had saved him from being "a loser, an outcast, just another piece of expendable Hollywood meat".

It began in 1990 when Depp played the title role in 'Edward Scissorhands'. He played the Spikey-haired, pasty-faced and horribly scarred lead character, with terrifying blades for fingers. This bizaar role won him a Golden Globe nomination.

Several Burton films followed including Ed Wood (1994) receiving another Golden Globe nomination, Sleepy Hollow (1999), and Corpse Bride (2005). Also in 2005 was his role of Willie Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , with yet another Golden Globe nomination.

2004 saw another Johnny Depp film result in an Academy nomination.

The film was ' Finding Neverland 'where Depp played J.M.Barrie , the author of Peter Pan .

The Johnny Depp film library is set to grow further. In 2007 we will see ' Sweeny Todd ' and lined up for 2008 release are ' The Rum Diary ' and ' shantaram ' .
