Carmen Electra
The name sounds exotic and the lady herself doesn't disappoint .
A staple component of the celebrity and gossip mags, Carmen Electra has a personality and body not easily forgotten .
She was born Tara Leigh PATRICK on April 20th , 1972 in White Oak, near Cincinnati ,Ohio , USA.
From the age of 5 she was taking dance classes and she enrolled at the School for Creative and Performing Arts at the age of 9 .
Tara relocated to Minneapolis ,where she lived with her sister and made a living as a model for Target department stores .
In 1990 she moved to Los Angeles.
While dancing in an L.A. nightclub she caught the eye of a talent scout and landed an audition with the hugely successful pop singer Prince .
The Music of Carmen Electra.
Prince ,who was looking to assemble an all-girl rap group for his record label ,auditioned Tara .
She didn't land that job, but Prince liked her so much that he wrote a song for her for a demo album and signed her to his record label , Paisley Park Records.
Prince told her she looked like Carmen from Bizet's Opera of the same name and re named her ,combining it with Electra for her last name after a goddess, from the Greek tragedy ,Sophocles.
And so , Carmen Electra was born.
She released a single called "Go-Go Dancer" , which failed miserably. Getting very little air time. And so ,despite all of Prince's efforts in helping Carmen by promoting her and her new album , Carmen's career as a pop princess was over .almost as soon as it had started ,
Carmen Electra re emerged in 1997 when she was picked as a host of MTV's ' Singled Out ' .
She also gained a world wide audience in the role of Lani McKenzie on the TV series ,Baywatch ,replacing a part vacated by Pamela Anderson .
She played in that show for the 1997 and 1998 series .
By 1998 Carmen Electra was a regular fixture on the covers and in photo layouts of the "laddie" magazines such as Maxim, Stuff and FHM.
From Small Screen to BIG Screen .
Carmen Electra appeared in the slow burner big hit of 2000 ' Scary Movie ' , where she played the lingerie-clad slasher victim , Drew Decker .
