Nikon D40 digital camera ---------- Nikon's newest

The Nikon D40 digital camera is Nikon's twelfth digital model and was released around December 2006 .

It was introduced as an upgrade of the popular D50 model and the launch price was a very enticing £450/$698 .

The result is a prosumer digital SLR camera that is the smallest and lightest yet produced by Nikon , and aimed towards the 'budget' end of the prosumer market .

First appearance is of plastic body and yet it feels sturdy and well made compared to other budget models .

Perhaps the biggest change with the Nikon D40 digital camera compared with its predecessors is the removal of the internal focus drive motor, which means that it is only compatible with newer AF-S/AF-I (which have built-in motors).

The other main difference is the loss of an LCD panel on the top of the camera , meaning information is displayed on the back LCD screen , although this is a comfortable 2.5inches in size.

The Nikon D40 digital camera is aimed towards those people wishing to up grade from a point and shoot camera , and dip a toe into the DSLR type of photography.

For this reason , those that are already experienced with DSLR photography will notice several features that they may consider necessaryto be missing from the Nikon D40 digital camera.

Notably there is no depth of field preview or fixed exposure steps.

Despite the omissions mentioned , the Nikon D40 digital camera is still a quality camera. With enough features and controls to keep even experienced photographers happy.

The people it is actually aimed at will not unduly miss any elements while they are still learning the skills of SLR photography .

The Nikon D40 digital camera really is a very competant camera , that feels good and is easy to use .

It is an excellent step into the field of digital SLR photography .
